Steve began his dream career with the British Columbia Conservation Officer Service late in life. He started as a BC CO on Vancouver Island in the community of Nanaimo in 2005. After 8 years in the Nanaimo Regional office, he transferred to the West Coast Port Alberni District. In the recent past, he was promoted to Sergeant and relocated to the Prince George office where he supervises the officers in the Omineca Region.
He has been a member of the provincial Predator Attack Team since its inception and continues to be a Predator Attack Specialist in his region, mentoring officers with wildlife mitigation, capture techniques, and Predator Attack investigations.
During his career, he has responded to several human wildlife conflicts including predator attacks on humans involving grizzly bear, black bear, and cougar. Most of his experience has been with cougar and black bear conflicts on Vancouver Island.
As a newer member of BC’s Wildlife Conflict Instructor group, he looks forward to the opportunity to meet fellow officers and wildlife professionals from all over North America at WHART conferences.
